Saponika Oooops Collection - Limited Supply

If you want great quality soap and don't mind some nicks and dents, then you can pick them up at Lady Lam Atelier - sold for only 50-cents per oz.

These soap bars are just odds and ends and corner pieces with dents and weird-looking folds and wrinkles that don't make the cut for regular packaging.

You can get this amount of soap

for about 3 bucks, and it'll last you a little over two months. Keep the bars out of standing water to prolong the product.

Lash Extensions Are Convenient

Corn!

This is what corn starters look like!

Miki

Miki is an older gal and she's got many ailments in her ripe age, but I am so grateful for her. She got tired and decided to really take it chill whilst eating her kibble.

Saponika Sea Kelp Soap

Traci Lords once said, "I love the scent of a man's neck" - which reminds me of a comment made by a client who (would never in a million years even know who Traci Lords is) said, "Sea Kelp smells manly." WOW, I feel so on target.

San Marzano Tomatoes

Somehow using San Marzano tomatoes when making marinara sauce makes a huge difference in quality of taste and freshness compared to other sauces. With the right ratio of tomatoe paste and herbs, it makes a delicious sauce for any occassion. You're like, wow, that's riveting, Christine, why don't you put a can in your mouth and be quiet.

kawaii desu ne = CUTE in Japanese

My friend Michelle and I attended the International Examiner fashion. The hospitality was lovely and the drinks were incredibly therapeutic my back hurts (maybe from falling on it recently). I left my damn camera in my other bag, so no photos from the show itself but the talent was amazing. I want to research some of the designers further. But for giggles, I photographed this cute gift from Michelle - it's post-its notes encased in a darling cover and a note pad w/ a pen. SO CUTE!

Sushi Cafe - Renton, WA

They recently finished a fantastic outdoor seating area with tents so you can enjoy your meal and a cold beer outside.

"Hi Jackie! Today, I want a Sapporo, ikura, tobiko, tako karage, agedashi tofu - thanks, man"

Spring Is Here, But So Is Autumn

Saponika Autumn is a popular soap bar with warm notes of orange and clove. Currently available at Lady Lam - made by yours truly in the South Seattle lab. Toss one in a plastic sandwich bag and bring some luxury with you on vacation.

Orange On Broadway - Tacoma, WA

You have to visit this place. It's a small shop but they've carefully edited their merchandise to bring you only the most modern-looking, authentic vintage. Things are well-constructed, I love the unique manipulation of fabric of older clothes. And recycling is nice.

This shift dress has pockets along the seam, and it zips in the back. Notice women don't ask gentlemen to unzip them anymore? Or if they do, I don't know about it because I reckon it's usually behind closed doors. But I do think that women are so modern and with all the yoga around us, we can manage just fine unzipping ourselves because I had no problem. I'm just sayin...

I knew this blouse was mine once I laid eyes on it. The draping is relaxed, the puckers are all in the right places-adding visual interest and good movement to the garment. It's a refreshingly unique look when paired with some Nike trainers and some velour pants. Look at bands such as Oasis and Spacehog. This shirt makes me want to pop my collar all day long!

Check out this crazy dress. This is an ode to Mrs. Allenkoff who was my across-the-street neighbor on Beacon Hill. She wore colorful, bold-patterernd dresses all the time. She was about 63 years-old, I was about 5 and she served me rum balls! I loved her for that - and for many other reasons, such as letting me apply her Chanel no. 5 on my wrist. But I bought this dress because it reminds me of her. It zips in the front with square pockets for all the spare change I try to collect off the ground in my parking lot.

Ambulance Chasing

This is a converted ambulance which now serves as a church van. We were in Federal Way, not really chasing this ambulance - just hungry and looking for a place to eat.

Visiting Jimi

In between clients I usually turn up the volume on my IPOD and listen to some Portishead and enjoy some cheese, but the other day, I decided to take a hike across the street to visit the burial place of Jimi Hendrix.

When I arrived, there were other visitors. It looked like a husband and wife team who apparently parked in the lot and then treked across the wet lawn to see Jimi. I was laughing so hard because the man's suede shoes were getting destroyed in the grass. He was saying stuff like, God Da$&*@#$, Muthaf$%*(@, $hit&$@(.

Me, I was just chillin - La Di Dahhhh. As you can see my legs are so short, I couldn't even put my foot up properly to lounge.

I went to Franklin, he went to Garfield.

Paris, France

The first time I visited Paris, I travelled alone and packed everything inside my old college backpack. Because I am from Liliput, I made my clothes fit neatly inside, but on the way back home to Seattle, I had to put on so many layers: I wore about 2 tank tops, 4 t-shirts, 3 sweaters and two pants to make room in my backpack to transport new clothes and souvenirs that included this coveted menu from L'Escargot, one of the fine restaurants that I was able to enjoy. This menu is now proudly framed at Lady Lam to remind me and others that life is beautiful, particularly in Paris, at L'Escargot.

Choose Your Music

Guests of Lady Lam Skin Care can always choose what they want to listen to while getting services. I was very impressed when a client actually wanted to listen to this:

Above The Law - Another Execution/Livin Like Hustlers: Original release date March 27, 1990.

Listen carefully, you will hear the wah-wah peddle.

I'm a huge fan!

I really am! Look at me!

Getting older, getting better

The mark of maturity is when one starts taking random photos of flowers for no apparent reason. It was something my old man used to do all the time in the 70s. Sometimes, he would have me pose next to them with my dorky Dorothy Hamill haircut and roller skates. Comparing my photographic acumen with my father's, you will find no difference. All the award-winning components of fine composition exists: notice excessive camera-shake, blurryness, hotness in lighting, completely screwed up aperture speed, ISO numbers all wrong. I learned only from the best!

Lash Extensions

Do they hurt?
No, not at all - it's really comfortable, you just lay there with your eyes closed the whole time. Folks usually fall asleep.
How long does it take?
about 90 minutes or so.
How much does it cost?
115.00 for the full set.
Can you still wear makeup?
Of course! Just make sure you use oil-free eyemake up remover. And if you must wear mascara, make sure it's NOT the waterproof formula, and you keep it on the tips of the extensions.
How long do they last?
They stay on for several weeks, but if you want to have the same level of volume and thickness from your initial visit, you have to go back every 3 or 3 1/2 weeks to get a fill. Otherwise, you let them fall off over time.

Sippin on some Sizzurp

Booo!

YAY!

Night on the town in Georgetown

I was skipping along my merry way toward Hudson for a refreshing French 76 when I saw this...

WHAT?
I visited a bar called Chapel not long ago (it used to be the Butterworth Manning Funeral Home) - and now this? I'm scared!

It's Easy Being Green

Check this out:

Re-use your old oj/milk cartons as a receptable for your food scraps. We saved this old bucket from KFC, and if you look carefully under the lid - it's not chicken, hahahahahahaha! Imagine arriving to a family potluck with this. "Hi Mom, Hi Dad...thanks for having us over - here's something that'll compliment the lumpia!"

The nice lady at Zen Sushi gave me this old bucket which serves well as a dog food container.

Garage sales and thrift shops sell fantastic drinking glasses that can easily double as flower vases, have several on-hand for last-minute hostess gifts - just pick up some flowers from the store, or cut them fresh from your garden (or if you want to be all thug about it, help yourself to some hydrangeas from Seward Park in the summer). I've done it before, it's great! These are Lily of the Valley from my yard.

When cleaning out the aqaurium, use the old aquarium water as fertilizer to water your vegetable garden. Plants benefit from the fish pathogens.

Re-use sandwich bags.

Also, if you're a menstruating female, check out these thangs:

Borrow books from the library instead of buying new ones.

Find new uses for old things. This serves as a great decorative container for our coffee filters.

Cafe Vignole

Located in the Rainer Beach neighborhood. My friend Lisa and I walked there for dinner and practically crawled back afterwards (because it was uphill). The people at Vignole inspect their drinking glasses very carefully under the light before pouring anything.

Happiness is a hunk of cheese

This is life. Beecher's cheese.

Heat Packs

After a good meal of coq au vin, baguette with room temperature butter from Normandy, and some pork rinds to round out the complex flavors, I pop these suckers in the microwave, throw them on my person, locate episodes of "The Hills" on the DVR, and it's GOOD NIGHT!
