Mme Esther's Beau Jour

Paris, France 2009

Esther wakes up daily at 7 a.m. She opens up the window that looks out into the cobblestone streets of Rue de la Prince in the St. Germaine neighborhood and gives the old lady across the street a nod as she washes her three plates in the kitchen sink. Esther suits up for her day. Having fulfilled all her soap orders to the local boutiques earlier, there are no deliveries today, so she will play!

She puts on her favorite dress

Picks out a comfortable pair of flats

Her favorite handbag

...all of which are hand-me-down items from her rich and dramatic friend who goes through clothes like men. Esther exchanges soap for her friend's designer clothes once every three months.

Voila, Esther picks up her petit chien named Miki and walks out the door, down the spiral staircase, passes Madamoiselle Kelly who is with her chien named Bob. Bonjour! Bonjour!

Miki trots alongside Esther on the cobblestone street as they walk to their favorite flower shop to pick up an arrangement. Shop owner, Mme Margarite and Esther get into a long conversation about flea market antiques while Miki watches the tennis match of lively conversation. After 20 minutes, the arrangement is ready and placed inside a large bag and it's time for more shopping.

Next stop is the local epicerie to get some items for the coq au vin this evening. Monsieur Frederic gives Miki a treat, but not until she earns it. He tells her to "reposez-vous, parlez, attendez, et allez!" Esther and Frederic laugh and laugh. Frederic asks about Esther's husband, Eric LeDepusoy who is currently in Scotland playing golf for the next 8 months. He is a professional golfer and travels frequently.

The bag has gotten heavy, Miki is getting tired. It's time to return the bag and the chien back to the apartment. All is in place for a wonderful meal this evening with some of her long time clients and associates.

But there's a little more to do.

What a lovely day. Esther returns, makes a lovely dinner for her guests, takes a warm bubble bath, and then it's bonne nuit.
